Objectives

The objectives of this NATO ASI are :


  • to create / establish a high level forum in which scientists and engineers from all over the world can meet, present and discuss the most advanced developments in defense related intelligent textiles and clothing in a sustainable way, aimed at an effective protection against Ballistic and NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) or multiple hazards;

  • to assess the actual overall directions of research and innovation towards future developments about physical or personal protection in line with the guidelines or strategy written down in the research roadmap developed during the ARW on Intelligent Textiles for Personal Protection and Safety (Zadar, Croatia, 2005). 

 

In general, the aim is to stimulate global research collaboration among universities / institutes and industry about safety and protection from multiple hazards in an integrated way.

 

The proposed programme emphasizes the actual developments in advanced protection against multiple hazards in order to safeguard the military in an intelligent way. Some of the lectures will not only deal with protection of soldiers but also with protection affecting civilians which illustrates the dual purpose.
